How to become a Voice for the Earth

sproutingYou too can be a Voice for the Earth

In fact, you probably already are – if you are speaking out on behalf of the Earth, making visible your work and seeding Earth care in ways in which can create a better world.

We believe in supporting people

We value and support people who are in service to the Earth. People who are committed to similar values as ours are invited to use our charity as a conduit charity to advance your work. If who you are advances the Earth Community Trust’s purpose of uniting people and planet with values that are aligned with ours, please contact us.

Our key Charitable Objects are to:

  1. promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment with particular reference to permaculture, bio-dynamics and with a view to helping people connect with nature; and
  2. advance the education of the public in the theory and practice of holistic living. Holistic living means a way of living that recognises human beings as a part of the greater whole.

Sometimes when you are offered funds, you will find that your funder requires you to have charitable status. This can stop many people from proceeding with good ideas. Setting up and running a charity takes much organisation and sometimes that is not the best use of a person’s skills. Instead you can use ECT and in return we retain a 10% tithing fee.

You can use the ECT as a conduit charity so that you can receive funding from a UK taxpayer – this is called restricted funding, in other words it is ring-fenced just for you, minus our 10% tithe fee. You are not an employee of the ECT.

Why we believe in tithing: a tithe is a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution back to the community. The 10% fee is a tithe which allows us to create a flow of funds back into the ECT which then in turn contributes to our funding pot, which helps support and keep our system in place. In this way we can build a system that has low costs, is self-funding and self-nourishing.

How we can help you

We can provide a supporting bank facility where:

  1. you have a funder that is a UK taxpayer;
  2. your funders gift is to be treated as charity tax deductible in the UK; and
  3. you do not have existing charitable status.

If all of the above applies, and your purpose and values align with ours, we invite you to join us and become one of the Earth Community Trusts Voices for the Earth.

Be aware, the Earth Community Trust does not provide funding for the time being – what we do do, however, is give you the benefit of our charity as a conduit charity for your UK funder.

How to Become a Voice for the Earth

For Charity Commission purposes we ask you to complete a form. We have kept it as simple as possible (it should take you no longer than 1/2 hour to complete) and our guidance notes set out why we ask the questions as set out.  We trust that you will find our form easy to complete, however, should you find it difficult in any way, please do not hesitate to let us know. We are actively seeking new ways to allow others to use the ECT as a conduit charity without being burdened by bureaucracy.

You can see our current Voices for the Earth on our Home page.
